WOODY GREEN ONLY ROSES

‘Only Roses’ is one half of Brighton artist Woody Green’s new double single release. It’s a tender piece of modern folk that feels like a soft, warm soundtrack to a sun-drenched Spring day. Musically, it’s filled with a blend of influences from jazz, psych and folk, with lilting flute lines flowing throughout. On the pairing of the two tracks (you can listen to ‘My Darling Girl And I’ here), he says: “I see them as two halves of a garden. One half (Only Roses) is bathed in early spring light, with flecks of shadow beneath some words. However, just like in my garden, in early spring, the other half remains in shade because at this time of year the sun doesn’t rise high enough in the sky yet, and so the house casts a line of shadow. But sometimes, at just the right angle, a bit of sunlight reflects off a window from the houses opposite and beams light into the shaded half.” Go back and listen to Woody Green’s debut EP, Alperton, which dropped at the end of 2024. -Dan Peeke
